Sustainable Waste Management as a Key Driver for Future-Ready Cities
As part of a project stay in Ghana, FIMA Industries and FIMA AFRICA focused on project visits, technical coordination and strategic discussions related to sustainable waste management solutions.
Markus Maierhofer, CEO of FIMA Industries, Egya-Boi Awoonor and Ing. Nana Osei Mainoo of FIMA AFRICA engaged in exchanges with project and financing partners, including Inès Oddo, Anastasia Jost and Guillaume Habarugira of ODDO BHF, to review the status of ongoing projects and discuss future development opportunities.
ACARP: Recycling Infrastructure with Lighthouse Character
A key point of the programme was the visit to Accra Compost and Recycling Plant Limited (ACARP). The facility processes collected household waste into valuable secondary raw materials using advanced European recycling technology.

ACARP represents a scalable and technically mature approach that combines resource efficiency, environmental protection and local value creation. As a reference project, the plant demonstrates how sustainable waste management infrastructure can be successfully implemented in rapidly growing urban environments.
The project highlights the importance of close cooperation between technology providers, local implementation partners and reliable financing institutions.

Strategic Exchange for Resilient Urban Systems
Another focus was a working session at the Jospong International Office with Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong and the Jospong International Business Team. The discussions centred on insights gained from ongoing projects and on identifying opportunities for the further development of sustainable waste management solutions.
The exchange underlined that resilient urban systems are achieved when technical expertise, strong local implementation capabilities and stable financing structures are closely aligned.

UPPR: Plastic Recycling and Local Value Creation
The project visits concluded with a tour of Universal Plastic Products and Recycling Limited (UPPR), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies. Established in 2013, UPPR manufactures plastic waste bins in various sizes and colours from recycled plastic for the local market as well as for the wider West African region.
UPPR’s recycling activities include the collection and processing of old waste bins, used water sachets and other plastic waste, which are reintegrated into the value chain. These activities contribute to reducing plastic waste, creating employment and improving environmental and sanitation conditions in urban areas.
Committed to the principles of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”, UPPR promotes effective collection systems as a foundation for clean cities. Waste bins play a central role in enabling hygienic waste storage, reducing uncontrolled dumping and helping to prevent blocked drainage systems and recurrent flooding.
